Shell becomes founding sponsor in Qatar of Mosaic initiative

Shell has today signed an agreement with Mosaic to become its founding sponsor in Qatar. Mosaic is a charitable initiative for Muslim youth around the world founded by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.

The agreement was signed in the presence of the British Ambassador to Qatar, John Hawkins, by John O'Brien, Managing Director of Mosaic, and Andy Brown,, Shell's Executive Vice President.

Founded in the United Kingdom by HRH The Prince of Wales in 2007, Mosaic is a charitable initiative which works to create opportunities for young people, championed by Muslims, harnessing the power of positive thinking.

Within the UK and internationally, Mosaic works to create opportunities for young people of all backgrounds and to create opportunities for understanding between different groups. Mosaic projects take many different forms depending on local need, but fall within three areas of interest: understanding, by connecting people to give new perspectives; education, by encouraging educational opportunities; and enterprise, by fostering an enterprising spirit.

In developing partnerships internationally, Mosaic has established the basis for a major network of like-minded individuals. Affiliated Mosaic networks are developing in various countries. This growth supports young people through sharing knowledge, offering collaborative opportunities and encouraging active citizenship both at a national and international level.

Participate

Mosaic will now work to build a strong and effective chapter in Qatar, drawing support from across Qatari society. The Qatar chapter will establish its own priorities to support Qatari youth development in line with the vision of HRH The Prince of Wales.

Amongst other activities, Qatar will, in July, for the second year, send young representatives to the UK to participate in the Mosaic International Leadership Summit at Cambridge University, which brings together participants from seventeen countries to develop their leadership skills and appreciation of their role in society.

John O'Brien said: "We are very excited about working with Shell as an internationally-renowned company, committed to social and environmental responsibility. We hope in due course to see further individual and corporate partners join with Shell to develop the Qatar chapter. We are confident that with such enthusiasm the programme will make a strong contribution to helping young people in Qatar to develop themselves personally and professionally and contribute to wider international projects. His Royal Highness will be pleased to hear about the progress we are making in the State of Qatar, a country which I know is close to his heart".

Andy Brown said: "Shell is delighted to support the establishment in Qatar of this initiative from His Royal Highness. We believe Mosaic can contribute to making Qatar National Vision 2030 a reality, particularly the human development pillar. We look forward to working with the Mosaic team to make this initiative a success".
