McDonald's unveils sponsorship plans for Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games

McDonald's, a Worldwide Olympic Partner, is commemorating 100 days until the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games with details about the company's sponsorship plans.

To celebrate the spirit of the Games with everyone around the world, McDonald's Olympic activities will create opportunities for new connections for fans, athletes and customers, while seeking to foster a spirit of unity and togetherness for all those participating in or celebrating the Games.

As the Official Restaurant of the Olympic Games, McDonald's is building two 24-hour restaurants in the Athlete's Village and Main Media Center for athletes, officials, coaches and media, which will feature a McCafé menu. McDonald's will also have five permanent restaurants in Sochi and the surrounding region that residents and visitors will be able to enjoy during and after the Games.

For the first time, McDonald's will debut several menu items new to Russia including grilled chicken, frappes and smoothies. Customers will also enjoy a variety of favorites during the Games like the Big Mac, Salads, Chicken McNuggets and World Famous Fries.

The company's commitment to providing children access to all types of play comes to life through local market grassroots programs that champion physical and creative play. As part of its legacy to the city of Sochi, McDonald's will donate a new children's playground. The playground is designed to meet the needs of children with disabilities, enabling them to play, learn and be active together.

McDonald's is also planning to bring together children from the host country Russia and additional countries from around the world for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in Sochi to experience the Games first hand.

Many of the kids selected will act as correspondents while at the Games, reporting on their Olympic journey back to their hometown press. They will attend Olympic events, meet athletes and learn about global cultures, while sharing the sights and sounds of the Games through their eyes with family, friends and their communities.

McDonald's onsite restaurants will be staffed during the Games by nearly 350 Russian Olympic Champion Crew members from across the country. These best of the best restaurant staff are selected, explains the company, based on their status as McDonald's All Stars or Employees of the Month at their hometown restaurants.

McDonald's Olympic Champion Crew, which has been part of McDonald's sponsorship activity since the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, will serve spectators, as well as the world's best athletes, coaches, officials and media.
